“Tinta Roriz is the Portuguese name for Tempranillo and here it is transformed into a very pleasant, drink-now, option. Expect woodsy spiced dark cherries, cola, aniseed and a touch of black olive. It's surprisingly light across the palate with supple tannins..” - Jane Faulkner for 2021 Halliday Wine Companion

Grape - Estate grown Tinta Roriz
Look - Deep and clear ruby to purple.
Aroma - Appealing aromas of violet, sage, black cherry and coffee grounds.
Taste - The palate is savoury and elegant with flavours of plums and blackberry complemented by some light, nutty tannins that give a medium grip and a good length to the finish. This is a modern style of wine, supple and slinky, that is gaining a broad appeal.
Occasion - This a very good food wine that will add to the flavour of food without the risk of overpowering with intense tannins and flavours in the wine.
Cellaring - Up to 4-5 years but it does drink well as a young wine.
Winemaking - Tinta Roriz is the Portuguese name for Tempranillo which we have been growing here in Rutherglen for many years as the main ingredient in our acclaimed Vintage Fortifieds. We are using it more in our table wines because it is a good warm climate variety as well as having wonderful flavour. Once crushed, the must was moved to an open-top vat for fermentation. Some of the free-run juice was bled off for use in our Rose leaving a more concentrated juice to create more flavour and complexity. A longer ferment of 7 days ensured optimum palate weight. One and two-year-old French oak puncheons were used for maturation, the larger size imposing less obvious wood characteristics leaving the palate fresh and balanced.
