Alvarinho - pronounced al-va-reen-yo, also know by the Spanish name, Albariño
A lively and bright wine with vibrant aromas that offers green apple and lime with some Asian type spices. The palate is long and intense with complex flavours of citrus and stonefruit. Perfectly balanced acids that give the wine great length and a lifted refreshing finish.
It's lighter than the Arinto so if you're enjoying both on the same day, try this one first.
Looking for suitable white wine varieties as well as tackling Rutherglen’s changing climate, Natasha Killeen (1988, 7th Gen) researched Portuguese varieties extensively and chose three to plant in Rutherglen, Arinto, Alvarinho and Antão Vaz. The first two were planted successfully in 2015 with Antão Vaz still in the nursery, due to be planted in 2020.
Gold - North East Wine Challenge
Best wine of region: Rutherglen - North East Wine Challenge
Only a tiny amount was bottled due to low yields from a dry and challenging growing season, so originally this wine was only available to Quinta Club members. Now approaching the release of the 2020 vintage, we are opening availability to the general public.
