Alvarinho - pronounced al-va-reen-yo, also know by the Spanish name, Albariño
SIZE: 750ML | ALC/VOL: 13.8% | VEGAN FRIENDLY: YES
Look - Bright green & gold
Nose - Attractive aromas of green apple and lemon zest with a hint of freshly chopped honeydew.
Taste - The palate is long and intense, complemented by balanced acidity, texture and fruit depth. Stone fruit, grapefruits with a hint of spices lead to a refreshing finish.
Occasion - A friend to all things from the sea, Alvarinho pairs exceptionally well with white fish and meats as well as leafy green herbs. Will also compliment spice from Asian style dishes with its zippy acidity.
Cellaring - Drink young and chilled
It's lighter than the Arinto so if you're enjoying both on the same day, try this one first.
Looking for suitable white wine varieties as well as tackling Rutherglen’s changing climate, Natasha Killeen (1988, 7th Gen) researched Portuguese varieties extensively and chose three to plant in Rutherglen, Arinto, Alvarinho and Antão Vaz. The first two were planted successfully in 2015 with Antão Vaz planted in September 2020.
